There is an invitation that comes with being human--and that is to discover Who You Really Are. It's hard to hear that you aren't who you think you are because you're used to yourself--even if at times it can be very hard to be you. Still, you know what to expect from this "you" and don't take kindly to the thought of messing with your cherished identity. The problem is your true identity wants to be known. And you actually can't find real happiness without it. Who you are now has to feed on external sources of pleasure, which can be expensive and exhausting.where Who You Really Are is quite simple and undemanding. The problem is you may not even realize that what is missing in your life is inside you and not out there somewhere . Nonetheless, it's true. And unlike the accumulating nature of the outer search (think of how many people, places and things you go through in a lifetime looking for happiness) the search for what is within you is a process of subtraction. You get to unlearn a bunch of false beliefs. You get to see that we humans are misled from the time we are very small and that we believe a lot of things about ourselves and other people and life that just plain aren't true. Not only aren't they true, but they are very stressful. They are, in fact, the source of our unhappiness because they keep us from just relaxing into our true nature--the one that awaits us when we learn to question what we have been taught and invest ourselves in knowing the truth instead. Now the thing about this process of unlearning things is that you have to do it. You can't take a pill to make it happen or go to a seminar and expect to come out "cured" in an evening. And although other people can help you, no one else can do the work for you. In other words, you have to take responsibility for accepting that standing invitation to be you. The good news is, it's the best project you will ever take on. What could be more important than finding out Who You Really Are and why you're here? Do you think anything less than that will ever really satisfy you? Even God can be used as a filler for an empty soul if you keep believing He/She/It is out there in some unreachable kind of way--instead of being a Presence that it is possible to feel deep down inside you. The bottom line is that you are either taking active steps to interrupt your old programming or you are replaying it. Nothing changes if you don't change it. Who You Really Are is waiting for you to do what it takes to set yourself free. |
